Australian women’s national cricket team star Megan Schutt has landed in trouble, as she was handed a two-match suspension for breaking rules related to prescription medication. Schutt has accepted the penalty and apologised for failing to meet the standards expected of her.

Cricket Australia (CA) announced the decision on Thursday, October 22. The Australian cricket board has confirmed that the experienced fast bowler had failed to follow the required guidelines for using prescription medicines. Earlier, Nat Sciver-Brunt and England stars were allowed to miss Sri Lanka T20Is for WPL 2027.

Megan Schutt suspended by Cricket Australia ahead of New Zealand T20I

Cricket Australia (CA) announced that Megan Schutt has been banned from two games after she failed to follow the requirements mentioned in its Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines regarding prescription medication.

Schutt will serve the first match of her suspension on Thursday, October 22, when Australia face New Zealand in the third and final T20I at North Sydney Oval in Sydney. The second match of her suspension will affect her domestic commitments.

She will miss the Adelaide Strikers’ opening match of the Women’s Big Bash League 2026-27 (WBBL 2026-27) season against the Melbourne Stars on October 31. Amid this, Hardik Pandya rejects India comeback until one condition is met.

Cricket Australia clarifies reason behind ban

Cricket Australia said in an official statement, “The breach was a failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication. This relates to a single incident which occurred while out of competition and was not for performance-enhancing purposes.

The two-match ban includes all international and domestic cricket. We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game.”

Megan Schutt issues apology over medication breach

Meanwhile, Megan Schutt accepted the two-match suspension and apologised for not following the CA rules. She also clarified that the breach happened outside competition and was not related to performance enhancement but admitted that she should have followed the guideline.

Schutt stated, as quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald, “I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me.” I’m sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I’ve received.

While this occurred out of competition and was not performance related, I understand that I am responsible for following the Sports Science and Sports Medicine Guidelines, which players receive regular education on, and I should have adhered to these guidelines.”

Megan Schutt’s numbers and recent performance

Notably, Schutt is among the top 10 wicket-takers in the history of women’s international cricket. The Australian fast bowler has taken 319 wickets in 244 international matches, including 4 in Tests, 114 in ODIs and 126 in T20Is.

Her most recent appearance for Australia came in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, where she delivered a brilliant performance by taking 10 wickets.
