The Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) boss has replaced Imran Khwaja, who left the ICC Board earlier this year. Mukuhlani becomes the first Zimbabwean to be appointed as the Deputy Chair of the ICC. His appointment comes at a big time for Zimbabwe and African cricket. Zimbabwe will co-host the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 along with South Africa and Namibia, while cricket is also returning to the Olympics. His new role could give Zimbabwe an even stronger voice in the global game.
Zimbabwe Cricket Chief Tavengwa Mukuhlani named ICC Deputy Chair
The International Cricket Council has announced appointing Tavengwa Mukuhlani as the ICC Deputy Chairperson and confirmed that his tenure will run until November 2027. With this, Mukuhlani has created history by becoming the first Zimbabwean to serve as ICC Deputy Chairperson.
Mukuhlani, who currently serves as the Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket and represents the nation on the ICC Board, will take over the position of the ICC Deputy Chairperson from Imran Khwaja. Khwaja had spent nearly two decades as an associate director on the ICC Board before losing the election in July this year.
Khwaja stepped down as deputy chairperson later that week. The Zimbabwean serves on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) and Nominations Committees, as well as chairs the HR and Remuneration Committee.
Tavengwa Mukuhlani opens up on working with Jay Shah at ICC
Tavengwa Mukuhlani said that he was honored by the trust shown by the ICC Board Directors. He is excited to work closely with ICC Chairman Jay Shah and other board members.
