The Mumbai off-spinner, who played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India, has a strong created a strong background after retiring from professional cricket. Because of his history of playing multiple matches for India across the formats and multiple coaching stints, Ramesh Powar is considered one of the leading names to become the head of the junior selection panel.

Ramesh Powar, the former off-spinner, has twice worked as coach of the Indian women’s team, and in the last season, Ramesh Powar was the coach of the Gujarat cricket team. Powar’s second stint with the Indian women’s cricket team came to an end when Ramesh Powar shifted to the National Cricket Academy to work as spin-bowling coach with the men’s setup headed by VVS Laxman. What will be the responsibilities of the selection committee?
According to an Indian Express report, BCCI has asked for applications to be submitted for the panel. For the panel, including the chairman post, the board is likely to appoint five posts. The junior selection committee will be responsible for selecting age-group teams up to Under-22 for coaching camps, and for India’s junior fixtures against domestic and international opposition across the formats.
Whether the matches will be in home conditions or away conditions, the panel will be responsible for tracking the players and their performances for their respective teams.

It will be the responsibility of the selectors to create a strong talent pool to prepare a strong bench of the Indian cricket team for the future. Alongside handling the administration of junior competitions and conducting them, the committee will have to organise BCCI junior tournaments and overseas junior tours.
Through youth scouting and the home and away cricket tournaments with young talents, the board will try to spread more awareness among the talents across the globe.
