On Monday, as per reports from Rohit Juglan of RevSportz, Shreyas Iyer’s side was denied their only practice session ahead of the Suzuki Cup due to a wet outfield at the San International Stadium in Japan, where the match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. However, it will not affect the team’s motivation or rhythm, as they have been in sensational form.

The Men in Blue will face Japan for two reasons: to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and to serve as a crucial warm-up fixture ahead of the 2026 Asian Games. This is a historic step to maintain the good relationship between the two countries, and Shreyas Iyer and his boys will enter directly into the knockout quarter-final stage starting September 28.

Why is the India-Japan cricket match being organized?

The match will be the first step in the “Sport 75” initiative, which was agreed upon during a summit between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Its main aim is to promote human exchanges and sports collaboration between India and Japan, taking into consideration India’s ambition to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.

The Japan Cricket Association and the BCCI were delighted to host this match as they shared their insights with the JCA CEO, Naoki Miyaji, who said that he is thankful to the BCCI and the Men in Blue for accepting their proposal to host the match and welcome all the fans from India and Japan to come and cheer for their team.

Tickets for the match are sold out

The Sano International Cricket Stadium will be reconstructed for the event, from a venue that can accommodate around 500 to potentially host up to 2,000 fans. So there will not be many fans inside the stadium to watch the match, as the ground capacity is really small. The tickets for the match are already sold out.

Previously, the JCA took help from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), whose groundsman travelled to Japan to identify suitable clay. The JCA invited full ICC members to use the facilities, and the BCCI agreed to help grow the sport’s profile in a country traditionally dominated by baseball.
