Discarded Test opener Jake Weatherald, white-ball blaster Jake Fraser-McGurk and new recruit Matthew Gilkes went ballistic as South Australia set Tasmania 384 to win in their One Day Cup clash at Adelaide’s Karen Rolton Oval.
The hosts piled on 7/383 to post the highest total of the 50-over competition despite run fests at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field in recent days.

Fraser-McGurk got the South Australian innings off to a flyer by smashing 88 off 47 balls.
It was slow going compared to his record-breaking 29-ball ton against the same opposition at the same ground three years, but after falling out of favour with the Australian selectors, the 24-year-old has made a strong start to the season.
Fraser-McGurk was 46 not out at the WACA last week when rain brought an end to South Australia’s clash with Western Australia.
His innings was brought to an unfortunate end this time around too as he was strangled down the leg side off the bowling of Mitchell Owen.

Weatherald replaced Fraser-McGurk at the crease and made a strong impression in his first innings since the Darwin Test against Bangladesh last month.
The left-hander compiled 92 off 90 deliveries before he too fell to Owen.
In his first game for South Australia since crossing from New South Wales, wicketkeeper batter Gilkes lifted the home side to an imposing total with a rapid fire knock off 97 not out off 65 balls at No.5.
Owen then played a cameo of 26 off 13, including four sixes, to start Tasmania’s run chase before he holed out to Fraser-McGurk at mid off, off the bowling of left-armer Campbell Thompson, who routed Bangladesh with eight wickets in a warm-up game.
Tasmania will need several big innings if they are to recreate the big run chases New South Wales and Victoria have pulled off against Queensland to start the One Day Cup.
