Mumbai Indians have appointed Luke Williams as their new <a href="https://cricket.international/ashley-noffke-leaves-pakistan-role-to-become-netherlands-head-coach/" title="Ashley Noffke leaves Pakistan role to become Netherlands head coach“>Head Coach ahead of the 2027 Women’s Premier League season, with Lisa Keightley deciding to move on from the role. Williams joins the franchise after coaching Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden WPL title in 2026.
The <a href="https://cricket.international/yastika-bhatias-112-in-vain-as-australia-a-women-chase-339-to-beat-india-a-by-two-wickets/” title=”Yastika Bhatia's 112 in Vain as Australia A Women Chase 339 to Beat India A by Two Wickets”>Australian coach Luke Williams now takes charge of a Mumbai Indians side that has won two WPL titles since the tournament’s inception. He will work alongside captain Harmanpreet Kaur as the franchise begins preparations for the fifth season of the league.
Mumbai Indians’ journey in WPL
Mumbai Indians have been one of the most consistent teams in the WPL since its inaugural season. They won the first edition in 2023 after finishing second in the league stage, before reaching the playoffs in 2024.
They returned to the top in 2025, winning their second WPL title, but had a comparatively difficult campaign in 2026. Mumbai finished fourth in the league stage with three wins and five defeats.
Overall, Mumbai have played 37 WPL matches, winning 23 and losing 14, giving them a success rate of 62.16 percent.
Their strongest head-to-head record is against Gujarat Giants, against whom they have won eight of their nine matches. Mumbai have a 5-5 record against Delhi Capitals, while they have won five of nine matches against both RCB and UP Warriorz.

Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani welcomed Williams to the franchise and highlighted his experience in women’s cricket.

She also thanked Keightley for her contribution to Mumbai Indians and wished her well for the future.

Luke Williams brings considerable experience in women’s cricket to his new role. He has been part of title-winning teams in the Women’s Big Bash League, The Hundred and the WPL with RCB.
Speaking after his appointment, Luke Williams said he was looking forward to working with Mumbai’s players and support staff.
“I’m really excited to be joining Mumbai Indians, a respected and successful organisation, and working with this talented group of players and support staff. We have a great opportunity to build something together, play an exciting brand of cricket and compete for success. I’m looking forward to the challenge and to giving our fans plenty to be proud of.”
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have a strong mix of experienced internationals and younger Indian players in their current squad. Harmanpreet Kaur remains the captain, while the squad also includes established overseas players such as Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Shabnim Ismail and Nicola Carey. The group also features promising Indian players including Saika Ishaque, Sajeevan Sajana, G Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma.
