Shubman Gill ruled out of 1st ODI?
On Friday, Shubman Gill left the nets after he suffered a hit on his elbow from a Mohammed Siraj delivery. He looked in pain and had to be treated by the doctors outside the nets. The team management will hope that it is not a serious injury, as he is a crucial player and also the captain of the side.
The majority of the injury will be looked into to determine whether it will require any scans and heavy strapping, and an official update on the knock is awaited. Just one day is left before the 1st match of the series starts. If Gill is out, then KL Rahul, who is the vice-captain of the team, would lead the team in the first game.
Who will replace Shubman Gill if he misses the 1st ODI?
The Indian team captain has been in sublime form this year, as he has scored 561 runs in nine matches so far in 2026 with an average of 93.50. Shubman Gill has smashed one century and five fifties this year. So if he is out of the first game and the series as well, it will be a huge problem for the Men in Blue.
However, it will open doors for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been named in the squad as the back-up opener, as the Southpaw scored a hundred in his last ODI game and was still dropped from the squad, while Virat Kohli, who missed the Afghanistan series, came back into the side for the England tour.

The Men in Blue already have some players missing out on injuries, and some have been doing their rehab at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Some players have been busy in the Asian Games 2026. So further injuries to crucial players will create a headache for the team management.
