A massive blow for the West Indies national cricket team. Justin Greaves, one of the openers of the team, who smashed a century in the series opener against India, has been ruled out of the second of the three-match ODI series against the Indian national cricket team.

On the eve of the India vs West Indies second ODI match, it has been reported that the batter will not be able to take part in the match at the Barsapara cricket stadium in Guwahati due to a calf injury. As the news has just broken in the public domain, there are not many details about the injury of Justin Greaves.

Justin Greaves has been ruled out of India vs West Indies 2nd ODI

In general, calf injuries can occur when the calf muscles are overstretched or overloaded beyond their current capacity. The 1st ODI of the ongoing series was held at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. The match started under humid conditions, with the temperature around 32 degrees Celsius.

As West Indies batted first in the match, and Justin Greaves was the opener, he was exposed to the heat. He stayed at the crease to face 108 balls to score 101 runs, with twelve 4s. Until he and his opening partner John Campbell were on the crease, the Indian cricket team were on the back foot with their newly shaped bowling attack.

Without Justin Greaves, the overall batting strength of the West Indies cricket team will be reduced significantly in the second match in Guwahati on September 30.

Justin Greaves picks up an injury in the India vs West Indies 1st ODI

It is assumed that Greaves picked up the calf injury during the previous match. He was in slight discomfort while batting in the first innings, and later, for the second innings, he did not come out to take the field. As of now, there is no official confirmation from the Caribbean cricket camp.

The second match, which will be held tomorrow in Guwahati, is going to be a must-win match for the visitors, as the Indian cricket team is leading the 3-ODI contest by 1-0 after winning the first match.

The Shubman Gill-led team registered a massive win over the West Indies cricket team by 8 wickets. The lone century of Justin Greaves went in vain as the Indian skipper Shubman Gill and the batting superstar <a href="https://cricket.international/rishabh-pant-reveals-what-makes-virat-kohli-special-despite-mounting-pressure/" title="Rishabh Pant reveals what makes <a href="https://cricket.international/kapil-dev-hails-virat-kohli-calls-him-a-special-talent-after-15000-odi-runs/" title="Kapil Dev hails Virat Kohli, calls him a ‘special talent’ after 15,000 ODI runs”>Virat Kohli special despite mounting pressure”>Virat Kohli hit centuries each in the run chase. India won the match chasing a target of 296.

India chased it down in 41.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. If the Men in Blue win at the Barasapara cricket stadium, then they will claim the entire series, with an opportunity to hand the former world champions a clean sweep.

After Greaves’s injury, India will be the clear favorite to win the second match. These ODI matches are important for the team as they will help the team in preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
