Former Australia opener David Warner has started a fresh debate among fans after naming his choices for the best current batters in Test, ODI, and T20I cricket. Warner made his picks after England’s famous fans’ group, the Barmy Army, asked fans to name the best batter in each format.
Warner’s choices quickly caught attention because he picked three young stars instead of established names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Joe Root. His selections show how the new generation of batters is making a strong impact in international cricket. David Warner names best Test, ODI and T20I batters, leaves out big names
The Barmy Army had posted a simple question on X, asking fans to choose the best Test, ODI, and T20 batter. David Warner names his best batters across all three formats, ignoring the established icons like Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Steve Smith.
The former explosive opening batter has picked England’s current white-ball captain and star batter, Harry Brook, as the best Test batter, while India’s Test and ODI captain, Shubman Gill, is the best ODI batter. Warner then picked India’s fiery opener Abhishek Sharma as the world’s best T20I batter.

David Warner picks Harry Brook as best Test Batter
Warner picked Harry Brook as his best Test batter, and the reason is that the 27-year-old has been in excellent form and has reached the top of the ICC Test batting rankings.
Brook has built a strong record in red-ball cricket, with an average above 53 and a massive 317-run triple-century to his name. His attacking style has also made him an important part of England’s aggressive approach to Test cricket.
The England captain has already scored more than 3600 runs in Test cricket and has been in sensational form across the format. Last month, Brook smashed 77 and 91 against Pakistan in the Test series at home. Amid this, ‘India has now become a superpower’: Devajit Saikia lauds India after Asian Games gold.
David Warner picks Shubman Gill as best ODI Batter
Warner selected Shubman Gill as the world’s best ODI batter at the moment, overlooking legendary batters like Virat Kohli. Gill has reached the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings and has already set several records at a young age.
Gill averages close to 60 in ODIs. He recently smashed a century and a double century in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Gill has already more than 3700 ODI runs to his name.
David Warner picks Abhishek Sharma as best T20I Batter
Warner’s most eye-catching choice was Abhishek Sharma for T20I cricket. The former Australia opener knows the Indian youngster well from their time together at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
Abhishek has already become one of the most dangerous attacking batters in T20I cricket. His ability to hit boundaries and sixes from the start has made him a major threat.
The left-hander has been in stunning form lately, scoring 61, 108, and 82 in his last six T20I innings. He also played a key role in India’s Asian Games 2026 gold triumph. Abhishek has already amassed around 2000 runs at a record strike rate of over 195 in T20I cricket.
