They offered some moments of brilliance in each innings, but again, it was the Males in Blue who bought their best at the proper moment. Tonight (October 6), it was the captain Shreyas Iyer who took the group safely to the finish line, scoring an unbeaten 102 runs off 43 balls.
After the match, the West Indies cricket group captain Shai Hope defined their efficiency in the first of the five-match ODI series at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Hope blamed his batting division for the 8-wicket defeat towards India.
Shai Hope explains why they went down towards India in Lucknow
Talking to the broadcasters after the match, Shai Hope, in his honest reply, said that they lacked some runs on the scoreboard, batting first in the match, due to the batters’ faults. West Indies bought 171 runs in 19.1 overs towards all ten wickets, which was 20 to 30 runs short, not less than from Hope’s standpoint.
“To be honest, you always put your finger on many components in the game, but it just appears like we didn’t get enough runs in the backend. I thought we might have been a bit bit too chaotic in the batting. We had been very aggressive about playing. But yeah, whenever you’re playing in India, you gotta put runs on the board.”
“You almost need to have like an additional 20 or 30 runs cushion because whenever you’re trying to defend with the ball, the wetness on the outfield, the surface tends to get a bit bit higher. So that you gotta give your self a bit bit more cushion,” Shai Hope said (as quoted by Cricbuzz).
Shai Hope on the West Indies group combination
The group combination of the West Indies cricket group was beneath the scanner as most of their bowlers proved very pricey while defending the 171-run whole. Spinner Akeal Hosein was the bowler with an economy charge of 9.25, and the bowler who leaked the least variety of runs in tonight’s match.
“Properly, typically you’d need a couple of more all-rounders to be bowling, some totally different choices for you. But just the combination we needed to go along with at the moment. You realize, we expected guys to execute no matter what skill set they convey to the table. But we just didn’t have enough to recover from the road at the moment towards India. And like I said, whenever you’re setting a goal, it is always harder down here,” Hope added.
Shai Hope on using spinners late
Whereas the fast bowlers had been leaking runs, West Indies introduced their spinners late in the run defence. Hope at the presentation ceremony defined that they had plans to damage Group India’s momentum in the middle-order. The plans, however, didn’t work out.
“Ideally, I would love them to be able to bowl eight overs every. We solely had two of them in our side at the point in time. So we wanted to, in the event you bought a pair more wickets, you still had a couple of left-handers in your again finish, we may get Chase to come back in and do some damage in the middle.”
“However it just didn’t work out for us at the moment. You realize, we wanted an additional spinner, but so many things you would have a look at in hindsight. But yeah, India played nicely, they usually played higher than us at the moment,” the West Indies skipper continued.
