Sydney Thunder Women produced a commanding batting performance to chase down Brisbane Heat Women’s competitive total of 178/5, securing a six-wicket victory with 20 balls to spare in the sixth match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026 at Sydney on November 1. Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne provided the foundation for Brisbane Heat with impressive half-centuries, but a collective batting effort led by Heather Knight, Phoebe Litchfield and Anika Learoyd ensured that the Thunder comfortably completed the 179-run chase in 16.4 overs.

After being put into bat, Brisbane Heat Women lost their first wicket early as Charli Knott departed for 16 off 11 deliveries, including three boundaries, with Samantha Bates providing the breakthrough at 19 in 2.3 overs. However, Grace Harris joined captain Georgia Redmayne at the crease and turned the innings around with an outstanding second-wicket partnership. The duo added 99 runs, taking Brisbane Heat from 19/1 to 118/2 and putting the side in a commanding position.

Harris was particularly aggressive, scoring 58 off 37 deliveries with seven boundaries and two sixes. She consistently found scoring opportunities and maintained the momentum against the Thunder bowling attack before Hannah Darlington provided the breakthrough. Harris was caught by Phoebe Litchfield off Georgia Voll’s bowling in the 13.2nd over, leaving Brisbane Heat at 118/2.

Redmayne continued to anchor the innings and brought up a valuable 57 off 44 balls, striking four boundaries and one six. However, the partnership was followed by a quick dismissal as Yastika Bhatia departed for just one run off three deliveries. She was caught and bowled by Georgia Voll, reducing Brisbane Heat to 120/3 in 13.6 overs.

Orla Prendergast then joined Redmayne and helped rebuild the innings with another important partnership. The pair added 40 runs for the fourth wicket, taking the score to 160 before Lauren Bell dismissed the Brisbane Heat captain in the 18.2nd over. Redmayne was caught by Jemima Barsby after contributing a well-constructed half-century.

Prendergast continued the attacking approach, scoring 28 off 20 deliveries with five boundaries. However, Nadine de Klerk dismissed her in the final over, with Tahlia Wilson completing the stumping at 176/5 in 19.5 overs. Annie O’Neil provided a late flourish with an unbeaten eight off four balls, including a six, while Lucy Hamilton remained not out on two off one delivery. Brisbane Heat finished their 20 overs at 178/5, setting Sydney Thunder a target of 179.

For Sydney Thunder, Georgia Voll was the leading wicket-taker with two wickets for 25 runs in three overs. Samantha Bates, Lauren Bell and Nadine de Klerk picked up one wicket apiece, conceding 34, 38 and 34 runs respectively. Hannah Darlington and Jemima Barsby went wicketless, conceding 20 and 25 runs in their respective spells.

In response, Sydney Thunder Women made an explosive start to their run chase. Captain Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll opened the innings with an attacking approach, adding 19 runs before Voll was dismissed for two off seven deliveries. Orla Prendergast provided the breakthrough, with Georgia Redmayne completing the catch in the 2.5th over.

Litchfield continued to attack and found an able partner in Anika Learoyd. However, the second-wicket partnership was broken when Lauren Bassingthwaighte dismissed the Thunder captain at 54/2 in 5.6 overs. Litchfield played a quickfire knock of 41 off just 19 deliveries, smashing six boundaries and one six at an impressive strike rate of 215.78.

Learoyd then joined Heather Knight, and the pair stabilised the innings while keeping the required run rate under control. Their 63-run partnership for the third wicket took Sydney Thunder to 117/3 in 12.3 overs. Learoyd contributed a valuable 37 off 28 balls, including two boundaries and two sixes, before Lucy Hamilton dismissed her. Learoyd was caught by Ayaka Kato-Stafford, giving Brisbane Heat their third breakthrough.

With the chase still comfortably within reach, Knight continued to dominate the bowling attack. Laura Harris joined her at the crease and added further momentum with an aggressive fourth-wicket partnership. The pair put together 59 runs, taking the Thunder to 176 before Laura Harris departed in the 16.3rd over. She scored 35 off just 16 deliveries, striking six boundaries and one six, but Grace Harris brought an end to her innings with Lily Bassingthwaighte taking the catch.

Heather Knight remained unbeaten and guided her team across the finishing line. She played an excellent knock of 54 not out from 29 deliveries, including seven boundaries and two sixes. Nadine de Klerk provided the finishing touch, remaining unbeaten on four off just one delivery as Sydney Thunder reached 180/4 in 16.4 overs to seal a six-wicket victory with 20 balls remaining.

For Brisbane Heat, Lily Bassingthwaighte was the most successful bowler, claiming two wickets for 31 runs in 3.4 overs. Lucy Hamilton, Orla Prendergast and Lauren Bassingthwaighte picked up one wicket each, conceding 34, 23 and 38 runs respectively. Sarah Glenn had an expensive outing, conceding 40 runs in her three overs without taking a wicket. Charli Knott and Sianna Ginger also went wicketless, giving away 19 and 33 runs in two and three overs respectively.
