Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) search for their new head coach is still under process, as they are yet to finalize a name for the role, which, for more than a decade, belonged to the former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming. Michael Hussey emerges as the frontrunner to become the next head coach.
Ahead of the IPL 2027 season, the CSK sacked their long-time coach Stephen Fleming after repeated failures in the past few seasons. Fleming found his new job soon, in the form of England’s head coach for the Test team, replacing his incumbent Brendon McCullum. But who will be Chennai Super Kings’ new head coach?
Who will be CSK’s new head coach?
According to the latest claims made by a sport Journalist Rohit Juglan, former Australia National Cricket Team batter Michael Hussey is under consideration by the CSK officials, but nothing has been confirmed yet. According to the current claims, the franchise is exploring all the possible options who could be a good fit for the role.
Former England National Cricket Team captain and former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan is another rumoured name on whome the Yellow Brigade was reportedly shown some interest.
Multiple names are expected to be in the list of candidates
There could be some other names as well as the potential candidates, as the Super Kings is one of the most successful franchises in the league’s history.
According to Rohit Juglan’s social media post, “The Man from Australia is frontrunner for CSK head coach race – with Morgan it’s the amount where things look difficult – will they look for others or come back to Morgan? If not, it will be Mr Cricket.”
From this post, it seems like Eoin Morgan is among the first-choice names for the CSK management, but there are some difficulties regarding the demands of the former cricketer.
Morgan might have demanded a massive payment demand which might have forced the IPL management to take backward steps. But as they must have to secure a deal, the management is most likely tracking some other candidates with Michael Hussey within the set-up.
Michael Hussey is with Chennai Super Kings around a decade
As per the ‘X’ post, CSK could only think strongly about Michael Hussey if the other shortlisted options go out of their range. After the departure of Stephen Fleming, there are only a few names left who have been with the franchise for a long time. Hussey is one of them.
The Australian batter first joined the franchise as a batter and then joined coaching set-up of the team. Mike Hussey played a key role in Chennai Super Kings achieving the IPL and Champions League double in 2010, followed by another IPL title in 2011.

The 51-year-old first joined the Yellow Brigade back in 2007 and left the team ahead of the 2014 season. Since 2015, he has remained with CSK.
