The post quickly attracted attention because Warner has been one of Australia’s most prominent batters across formats over the past decade. His message, however, appeared to be made in jest rather than as a formal announcement of an international comeback.

Australia A announce Playing XI for four-day match against India A
Australia A will begin their two-match four-day assignment against India A in Puducherry on September 22. Peter Handscomb will captain the side, taking over the leadership role from Nathan McSweeney, who has regularly led Australia A in recent assignments.
McSweeney captained Australia A in their four-day match against England Lions in December 2025. However, with Australia’s Test number three position still a point of discussion amid Marnus Labuschagne’s poor run, McSweeney is reportedly being allowed to concentrate on his batting.

Campbell Kellaway is hoping the upcoming matches provide Australia A’s players with a demanding challenge in Indian conditions. The batter previously scored 88 alongside Konstas’ 109 on a flat Lucknow surface in September 2025.
Kellaway is particularly keen to learn from Handscomb, who has considerable experience playing in India and could provide valuable guidance to the younger members of the squad.
“I’m hoping we get some turning tracks over there because I guess that’s what you go over for,” Kellaway said.
“You want to be exposed to challenges like that. So yeah, I’m hoping I can get over there and get some time in the middle and just learn on the go, and also speak to other quality players that you’re over there with on how they go about things.
“Someone like Pete Handscomb is going to be there on this tour. He’s done it all before in India, so speaking to guys like him about my game and about what he finds works.”
