Former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin’s tenure as New South Wales coach began in stunning fashion with the Blues knocking off Queensland’s monster total of 358 with an over to spare at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field on Tuesday night.
For the second straight One Day Cup game to start the season, the Marnus Labuschagne led Bulls were unable to defend a formidable total after Victoria chased down a target of 336 on Saturday night.

NSW were in trouble at 6/251 after 36.2 overs, but Will Salzmann (70* off 65 balls) and debutant Jake Scott (52* off 39) blasted the visitors to a four-wicket win with an unbeaten 108-run partnership.
Last season’s leading run scorer Kurtis Patterson was promoted from No.3 to opener and smashed 63 from 32 balls, including seven sixes.
There were 35 sixes struck for the match – the second most ever in a One Day Cup game.
Patterson’s opening partner Riley Kingsell also hit a half-century with the 20-year-old debutant, who is the son of Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Sarah Ryan, announcing himself in domestic cricket with 79 off 82.
It was a Queensland youngster who made the biggest personal statement of the match, however.
Hugh Weibgen, Australia’s 2024 U19 World Cup winning captain, crunched 125 off 89 opening the batting for the hosts.
The 21-year-old right hander’s second List A century included seven sixes and was well supported by opening partner Jack Clayton (80 off 79).
Labuschagne was also in the runs, making 60 off 47 deliveries.
Young Queensland quick Tom Straker, who was skipper by Weibgen at the U19 World Cup two years ago, made an unwanted slice of history with his figures of 1/105 from nine over the worst ever registered in the One Day Cup.
