Harry Brook created history by smashing England’s first-ever ODI double century, but his incredible effort ended in heartbreak as Sri Lanka pulled off a stunning chase in Rawalpindi. In a thrilling match of the ODI Tri-Series featuring 859 runs, Sri Lanka chased down England’s massive total of 429 with just one ball remaining on Thursday, October 22.

It was the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history. The historic victory also caught the attention of the West Indies head coach, Daren Sammy, who reacted to the incredible chase on social media, and his Hindi expletive abbreghest run-chases in ODIs, ft Sri Lanka’s win over Harry Brook’s England

Harry Brook creates history with double century

Harry Brook smashed 200 runs off just 114 balls against Sri Lanka. The England captain started slowly, scoring 13 off his first 24 deliveries, but consecutive sixes against Kamindu Mendis turned him up.

Brook reached his fifty in 42 balls, a century in 75, 150 in 97, and a double century in 114 deliveries. He added 159 runs with Joe Root and 185 with Will Jacks, while England collected 156 runs in the final 10 overs.

Brook reached his double century with a paddle-swept four before getting caught at deep point off the final ball. With this, Brook became only the second player after Chris Gayle to score a Test triple century, an ODI double century, and a T20I century.

Rathnayake and Shanaka lead Sri Lanka’s fightback

Chasing the massive target, Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis runs out without facing a ball. Sri Lanka suffered another setback when Avishka Fernando was given out LBW at 38 for 3. However, he overturned the decision on review and added 166 runs with Pavan Rathnayake.

Fernando scored 97 before falling to Jamie Overton, while Rathnayake smashed 130. Well, Dasun Shanaka continued the attack with 97 off 50 balls, including six fours and eight sixes. He survived two dismissal decisions through successful reviews but missed his century by three runs.

Janith Liyanage’s last-over heroics seal historic win

With 67 runs needed from 36 balls, Janith Liyanage changed the game with an unbeaten 61 off 27 deliveries, hitting seven fours and three sixes. Sam Curran struggled in the heavy dew and finished with 2 for 103 in nine overs, which was England’s most expensive bowling figures in ODI cricket.

Josh Tongue dismissed Dunith Wellalage and Eshan Malinga with consecutive yorkers in the final over. Asitha Fernando then took a single to bring Liyanage back on strike. With six runs needed off two balls, Liyanage smashed Tongue over long-off for a match-winning six.

England suffered their second defeat in three days in the ongoing ODI Tri-Series, while Brook became the first player to score an ODI double century in a losing cause. Earlier, Bangladesh name 15-member squad for West Indies Tests; Taskin Ahmed returns.

Daren Sammy’s ‘BC’ remark goes viral after Sri Lanka’s historic chase against England

After Sri Lanka’s sensational victory over England, Daren Sammy could not help but to react hilariously on his social media handle. Sri Lanka’s unbelievable chase against England left the West Indies head coach stunned.

Sammy’s use of the Hindi expletive abbreans. He posted on X: “Wow… no score is safe. I know the feeling, BC.”

Sammy’s reaction summed up the shock of the remarkable contest, as Sri Lanka proved that even a massive total can be chased down in modern-day cricket.

The former captain was referring to the West Indies’ recent eight-wicket loss to India in Guwahati despite scoring their highest-ever ODI total of 405/7.
