The appointment follows Mahela Jayawardene’s exit from the position and marks another step in Pollard’s long association with the five-time IPL champions.

Mumbai Indians appoint Kieron Pollard as new head coach for IPL 2027
Mumbai Indians have turned to a familiar figure to lead their team into the 2027 season, elevating Pollard to head coach after his stint as batting coach. The decision keeps the former all-rounder within the franchise’s leadership setup and gives him responsibility for guiding a squad he knows from years of playing and working alongside its members.
Kieron Pollard joined MI as a player in 2010 and became one of the defining figures of their most successful period.
Mumbai Indians co-owner Nita M. Ambani welcomed the promotion, highlighting Kieron Pollard’s long-standing connection with the franchise and his understanding of what it means to represent the team.
“Pollard joined Mumbai Indians as a young 22-year-old and, over the past sixteen years, has become an integral part of our family. As a player, he gave us many unforgettable moments, and as a coach, he has continued to share his experience, passion and deep understanding of the game. We are delighted to see him take on this new responsibility as Head Coach.
“Polly knows what it means to wear the MI jersey and what it takes to play for the Paltan. I am confident that he will bring the same commitment, belief and determination to this role. I wish him every success as he leads the team into its next chapter,” Ambani said.
