Continuing her ruthless form, India women’s national cricket team opener Shafali Verma creates a record by scoring a century in the second semi-final of the ongoing 2026 <a href="https://cricket.international/will-asia-cup-trophy-fiasco-repeat-at-2026-asian-games-latest-update-on-mohsin-naqvi/" title="Will Asia Cup trophy fiasco repeat at 2026 Asian Games? Latest update on Mohsin Naqvi”>Asian Games in Japan. With the century against the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team, Verma becomes the first-ever woman cricketer to score a century in the Asian Games. Along with this major record, there are a few other milestons which Shafali Verma claims through her individual effort.

With the century of Verma, India, in the first innings of the match, secured a total of 195 runs in 20 overs in exchange for only 4 wickets. Verma remained not out for 100 runs off 49 balls with three 4s and a staggering amount of nine 6s, which took her strike rate to 204.08.

A bunch of records for Shafali Verma

The India top-order batter required only 49 balls to complete the century today, which is one of the fastest Hundreds in the history of Women’s T20 International cricket. The fastest century scored by a women cricketer in the format belonged to Deandra Dottin, the West Indies batter who touched the 100-run mark in just 38 balls.

Fastest 100s in Women’s T20Is (by balls faced)
38 – Deandra Dottin (West Indies Women‘s National Cricket Team) vs South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team, St Kitts, 2010
46 – Alyssa Healy (Australia Women’s National Cricket Team) vs Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team, North Sydney, 2019
47 – Tammy Beaumont (England Women’s National Cricket Team) vs South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team, Taunton, 2018
47 – Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team) vs India Women’s National Cricket Team, Johannesburg, 2026
47 – Ayesha Zafar (Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team) vs Zimbabwe Women’s National Cricket Team, Karachi, 2026
49 – Shafali Verma (India Women’s National Cricket Team) vs Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team, Nisshin, 2026
49 – Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women’s National Cricket Team) vs New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team, Providence, 2018

Shafali Verma is in red-hot form

The 22-year-old batter has been in good form since the beginning of the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup; now she is carrying the same form in the 2026 Asian Games. In the quarter-finals against the Japan Women’s National Cricket Team, the top-order batter scored a match-winning unbeaten 40, and today, in the semifinals against Bangladesh, Verma smashed an unbeaten century.

Because of the ton and the total, which is close to the 200-run mark, the Indian women’s cricket team is looking in the front seat to claim the match to confirm a berth in the title decider fixture.

Shafali Verma is on the verge of another milestone

Riding high on the ongoing form, the Indian batter could become the highest run-scorer for his national team in a calendar year in Women’s T20Is. As of now, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt with 824 runs is leading the tally, while Verma needs only 10 runs to surpass the total of Wolvaardt in the list.

Most runs in a calendar year in Women’s T20Is
824 – Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team) in 2026
815 – Shafali Verma (India Women’s National Cricket Team) in 2026
800 – Natasha Miles (Hong Kong Women’s National Cricket Team) in 2026
