The decision immediately bore fruit in an action-packed first innings where wickets fell like ninepins.
Captain and opener Mady Villiers came out firing, blasting 18 runs off just 7 balls (including 3 fours and 1 six) before Grace Ballinger clean-bowled her. Ballinger struck on the very next sequence to send Bess Heath back for a golden duck (0 off 1 ball). Sterre Kalis tried to steady the ship, constructing a crucial 15 off 10 balls before being bowled by Alexa Stonehouse.
As the pressure mounted, Anchors’ bowlers tightened their grip. Ella McCaughan managed just 2 off 4 balls before being caught by Fatima Sana off Rabbjyot Rajput, who then trapped Indu Barma lbw for a single-ball duck. Saachi Dhadwal attempted a counter-attack with a steady 17 off 15 balls, but her dismissal—caught by Franklin off Hanseerat Kaur—triggered another flurry of wickets. Hanseerat struck again on her next over, trapping Amarpal Kaur lbw for 2 off 3 balls.
Sane Purandare fell for a golden duck, trapped lbw by Fatima Sana, who then bowled Vandana Mahajan for 3 off 10 balls. Laura Cardoso (7 not out off 6 balls) and Sophia Smale (1 not out off 2 balls) were left stranded at the crease. With 1 extra run added to the tally, Toronto Sixers Women closed out their innings at 70 for 9.
Vancouver Anchors’ bowling defense was spearheaded by Grace Ballinger, who finished with remarkable figures of 2 for 4 in 2 overs. Rabbjyot Rajput bowled with pinpoint precision to claim 2 for 19, while Hanseerat Kaur was equally impactful with 2 for 12. Captain Fatima Sana recovered from a tough first over to take 1 for 24, and Alexa Stonehouse provided outstanding control, taking 1 for 7 at an economy of 3.50. A total of 5 extras were conceded during the innings.
Vancouver Anchors were given a flying start by opener Laura Harris, who played a blistering, match-defining knock of 24 runs off just 10 balls, featuring 3 maximums. However, her partner Anika Kolan was dismissed for a 2-ball duck by Vandana Mahajan, who struck early to break the opening pair. Harris kept hitting hard before falling to Sophia Smale, caught by Mahajan. Captain Fatima Sana could only manage 6 off 6 balls before Mahajan snapped up her second wicket, caught by Saachi Dhadwal.
Wickets continued to tumble in rapid succession as Phoebe Antonia Franklin (5 off 2 balls) was run out through sharp work by Indu Barma and Bess Heath. The mid- innings collapse deepened as Kanchan Rana (1 off 5 balls) was trapped lbw by Mady Villiers, while Alexa Stonehouse was caught behind off Laura Cardoso for a 4-ball duck. Zeel Patel held one end briefly with a patient 3 off 15 balls before becoming Indu Barma’s victim, caught by Heath. Barma struck again in quick succession, removing Eman Asim for a 4-ball duck, caught by Dhadwal.
A second run-out—this time involving Cardoso and Smale—ended Grace Ballinger’s fightback at 7 runs off 9 balls. Remaining unbeaten, Rabbjyot Rajput (2 off 2 balls) and Hanseerat Kaur (0 off 1 ball) pushed Anchors through to the end of their 10 overs. Vancouver Anchors Women could only accumulate 49 for 9 in their allotted 10 overs. Toronto Sixers Women successfully defended their total, securing a hard-fought 21-run victory at BC Place.
The Vancouver bowling attack was exceptionally disciplined throughout. Indu Barma produced standard-setting figures of 2 for 4 in her 2 overs. Vandana Mahajan matched her tally with 2 for 16. Sophia Smale delivered a brilliant spell, picking up 1 for 9 with an economy rate of just 4.50, while Laura Cardoso chipped in with 1 for 15. Amarpal Kaur proved incredibly tight, conceding just 5 runs in her 2 overs while picking up 1 wicket.
