Kevin Pietersen is considering extending his England white-ball consultancy role into Test cricket after speaking with England’s new red-ball coach Stephen Fleming. Kevin Pietersen has already started working with England’s white-ball batters and could now have a role in helping the Test team.

Brendon McCullum contacted Kevin Pietersen last month to discuss a short-term consultancy role with England’s white-ball team. Pietersen agreed to work on an in-and-out basis until the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Pietersen has already had conversations with some England players about Test batting. He could continue that work during England’s winter white-ball tours of Australia and South Africa. Pietersen reveals why he can’t commit fully to England Test role ahead Of Ashes 2027
Pietersen explained that his business commitments, broadcasting work, and other activities make a long-term coaching role difficult. He also has plans to spend three or four weeks with animals in Africa next summer, which means he will not be available for the entire Ashes 2027 series.
Yet, the former batter wants to share his experience with England’s Test batters whenever possible. He has already discussed with Fleming the type of language and approach that could be used while working with the players ahead of the South Africa tour and the 2027 Ashes.
Kevin Pietersen said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, “I have had a conversation with Stephen Fleming, but I don’t think that necessarily means that I need to be in a dressing room. There’s a lot of time in the lead-up to an Ashes series; there’s a lot of time in the lead-up to the tour of South Africa now, where I’m going to be with the Test batters in Australia, and there are conversations that can be had there.”
The Englishman added, “Inside a tournament, I can’t do anything. There’s nothing I can do. But I’ve certainly had a conversation with Flem—who I absolutely love—about language that he would like me to use with the Test batters going into, say, South Africa, and then certainly into the summer next year. But I don’t think I can commit to a lot more time.”

During his first media interaction since taking up the new role, Pietersen also spoke about England’s current white-ball setup. He admitted that he initially thought he was in trouble when McCullum called him, but the environment under him has been very different from what he expected.
Pietersen also praised England white-ball captain Harry Brook and highlighted his huge potential. He also feels England still has plenty of work to do before the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
