Sydney Thunder Complete WBBL 12 Squad with Claire Moore’s Signing

Western Sydney-born batter Claire Moore is set to return to familiar colours after Sydney Thunder confirmed her signing for Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 12), completing the club’s 15-player primary squad for the upcoming season. The 22-year-old will once again wear lime green, reuniting with the franchise where she previously featured during WBBL 09. Her return adds batting depth and another promising all-round option to a Sydney Thunder squad looking to make a strong impact in the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League season.

Moore made her WBBL debut at just 17 years old and has already experienced representing both Sydney Thunder and their cross-city rivals, Sydney Sixers, having also spent time with the latter during WBBL 07. As she prepares for her third WBBL campaign, the young batter will be eager to turn her experience into consistent performances and establish herself in Thunder’s best playing XI. Her ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes her an exciting addition as the team prepares for another competitive season.

For Moore, however, the move carries significance beyond cricket. Having grown up in Western Sydney and supported the Thunder alongside her family, returning to the franchise represents a special homecoming. Speaking about her signing, Moore expressed her excitement at being back with the club and reconnecting with the environment she enjoyed during her previous stint.

“It feels like I’m back at home. I absolutely loved being with the Thunder a few years ago,” Moore said. She also reflected on her childhood memories of watching the Big Bash with her family, who have always supported the team in lime green. Looking ahead to the season, she highlighted the quality and energy within the squad, expressing enthusiasm about working with head coach Lisa Keightley, Phoebe Litchfield and the rest of the group. Moore believes the team has the potential to make a significant impact and is keen to contribute wherever required.

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland also welcomed Moore’s return, highlighting her development as a player and her growing ability to influence matches in multiple departments. Copeland noted that her batting remains a strength while her bowling has progressed to a level where she could provide valuable contributions across different situations. He also emphasised the significance of her connection to Western Sydney and the club, describing her return as a positive story for the Thunder family.

With Moore completing their primary squad, Sydney Thunder will now turn their attention towards the start of WBBL 12. Head coach Lisa Keightley will lead a 15-player group featuring established international names, emerging talent and experienced domestic performers. The squad includes Jemma Barsby, Sam Bates, Lauren Bell, Hannah Darlington, Nadine de Klerk, Lucy Finn, Hasrat Gill, Nicola Hancock, Laura Harris, Heather Knight, Anika Learoyd, Phoebe Litchfield, Claire Moore, Georgia Voll and Tahlia Wilson. The combination offers Thunder several options as they look to build momentum throughout the tournament.

Sydney Thunder begin their WBBL 12 campaign in Melbourne on Thursday, October 29, before returning to Sydney for their first home fixture against <a href="https://cricket.international/brisbane-heat-sign-rising-fast-bowler-catherine-white-after-impressive-wncl-performances/" title="Brisbane Heat Sign Rising Fast Bowler Catherine White After Impressive WNCL Performances”>Brisbane Heat at Drummoyne Oval on Sunday, November 1, at 3:40 PM AEDT.
