West Indies have handed Kamil Pooran his maiden international call-up for their upcoming white-ball tour of India. Shimron Hetmyer will miss the three-match ODI series after being given an extended recovery period following the Caribbean Premier League but will return for the five-match T20I series.
The upcoming series will be played from September 27 to October 17 and will be an important preparation period for West Indies ahead of the 2027 World Cup Qualifiers. Shai Hope will captain both sides as the visitors begin with three ODIs in Thiruvananthapuram before moving into the five-match T20I series.
Kamil Pooran Earns Maiden T20I Call-Up as Shimron Hetmyer Rested for ODIs
Kamil Pooran has earned his maiden T20I call-up after an impressive debut season with Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026. The 30-year-old opener scored 273 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 159.34, including two half-centuries and a best of 81*.
Shimron Hetmyer has been given an extended recovery period after the CPL and will miss the three-match ODI series from September 27 to October 3. He will return for the five-match T20I series, while former captain Jason Holder has been rested for the entire tour.
19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew has also been picked for the T20Is. He replaces Ackeem Auguste, who remains unavailable while recovering from surgery he underwent in August. Brandon King is another notable omission from the ODI squad.
John Campbell Makes ODI Comeback for West Indies
John Campbell has also returned to the ODI side after missing the final two matches of the recent series against New Zealand because of a hamstring injury.
Keemo Paul and Quentin Sampson have also returned to the T20I squad. Shimron Hetmyer was one of the standout performers in CPL 2026, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer with 367 runs in 12 innings at an average of 45.87 and a strike rate of 197.31, including two half-centuries.
The second ODI in Guwahati on September 30 will also mark the end of the automatic qualification cycle for the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa. West Indies cannot qualify directly for the tournament and will have to go through the ICC World Cup Qualifiers next year.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy believes the India series will provide an important opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the 2027 World Cup. West Indies will leave the Caribbean on September 21 and arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on September 23. The three-match ODI series will run from September 27 to October 3, followed by five T20Is from October 6 to October 17.
